Can Beginners Start Karate in Cleethorpes?

Absolutely.

You don't need previous martial arts experience to start karate.

Many people who walk into a dojo for the first time have never trained in a martial art before. You don't need to be extremely fit, flexible or athletic. Karate training is progressive, and your fitness, strength, flexibility, coordination and technique can all improve as you train.

At Kaizen No-Michi, beginners learn the fundamentals step by step, developing confidence as they become more familiar with karate training.

Our aim isn't simply to teach you how to punch and kick. Karate is a long-term journey of personal development.

What Do You Learn in Shotokan Karate?

Shotokan Karate consists of several important areas of training.

Kihon – Basic Techniques

Kihon means fundamentals. Students practise the basic techniques of Shotokan Karate, including punches, strikes, blocks, kicks, stances and movement.

Developing strong fundamentals provides the foundation for everything that follows.

Kata – Traditional Karate Forms

Kata are structured sequences of karate techniques performed against imaginary opponents.

They develop technique, balance, coordination, timing, concentration and understanding of karate principles.

Kumite – Partner Training

Kumite means training with a partner.

Students learn how to apply their techniques against a moving opponent while developing timing, distance, control, reaction and awareness.

Self-Defence

Karate training can also develop practical skills including awareness, movement, timing and the ability to respond appropriately to different situations.

The Benefits of Karate

Karate can provide benefits for both the body and mind.

Regular training can help develop:

- Fitness and stamina
- Strength and coordination
- Balance and flexibility
- Concentration
- Discipline
- Confidence
- Self-belief
- Stress management
- Goal setting

- Respect for others

Progress in karate is not measured only by physical ability. Students learn that improvement comes through regular practice, patience and perseverance.
